Dave Crawford: Google UX Design Certificate Instructor

Dave Crawford is the instructor of the sixth course of the Google UX Design Certificate, “Build Dynamic User Interfaces (UI) for Websites,” previously known as “Responsive Web Design in Adobe XD.”

He was Head of Design Program Management for Transportation, Auto, and UGC at Google Maps, but he currently works at Microsoft as Principal Director of Product Design. Prior to Microsoft and Google, Dave worked at Thomson Reuters.

“I had a massive interest in UI. I know it sounds crazy, but I used to watch Star Trek as a kid and I loved those interfaces they had, and they really got me hooked in touch technologies way before it eventually came out,” he explained about why he got into design. “I actually had a slightly nontraditional path into UX. I did an undergraduate degree in software engineering and artificial intelligence, but I did my thesis on human-centered systems aspects, and then I got my first job as a programmer. But I was a scripting programmer, which was a bit of a surprise for me. So, I decided that I wanted to move properly into the field of UX. So I took a part-time master’s degree in human-centered systems, or HCI.”

Dave holds a BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering from Durham University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human-Centered Systems from City, University of London.
